Last week, the Interledger Foundation brought us together in Medellín, Colombia, for Beyond Access: Building the Future of Finance in Colombia.
One of the highlights was the Open Payments Hackathon, where developers put Open Payments into practice to tackle real financial challenges. The projects included SMS-based payments for people without internet access, accessible NFC payment experiences for people with visual impairments, and a new approach to remittances that gives senders more control over how their money is spent.
But hackathons are more than a few days of coding. It’s a chance to test ideas, push the technology further, and find new ways Open Payments can solve real-world problems. These projects are practical examples of how open payment technology can remove barriers that traditional financial services don’t always address.
We’re especially proud of our colleague Matej, who mentored the winning team. Congratulations to the team and all the participants who turned their ideas into working solutions!
A big thank you to the Interledger Foundation and everyone involved in making this event happen. We’re glad to be part of a community that is exploring new ways to make payments more accessible and useful in everyday life.
